Deere, doesn't actually "build" anything under 100 HP. It's all sub-ed out to smaller companies, and built overseas (out of the country). Actually, there are only a few companies that build anything under 100 HP, and they do it for all the big brands. Yanmar, Kubota, MTD....etc are the ones doing most of it.

I grew up "green". That was what my grandfather bought and the dealer took very good care of him.

They're good tractors but some folks like a different flavor.

I'm OK with some of the 300 and 400 series Deere stuff. Sort of like the way I am with Cubs, Cyclops or older good after that not for me. Just my 2 cents, please don't hate me cause I own 1 Deere, well it used to be a Deere.

I have a JD 317 with an Onan P18 engine in it and it's a good tractor but, I still love my cubs.

I had two Deere's, a 420 (left photo) that I sold, made good money on but kinda wished I would of kept it and I still have the 430 in the right photo. I think the 420's and the 430's are in a class of their own in the GT world. The 420 was built to compete with the 982 I think and the 430 is just plain awesome. They seem more complex to work on, no free manuals anywhere and parts can be expensive.

A few things I like are how they kept the space from the seat to the steering wheel the same on their supers. On my Cub supers I find myself leaning forward to reach the wheel. I also like the locking rear differential and standard 3 stick remotes.

I found out quick they don't have an "O *hit" pedal on the left to return the hydro to neutral. They only have the turning brakes and they are not connected to the transmission at all.

Thay also have a great forum (WFM) but it's not as good as this site that I call home.

The bottom line is I think they are a great machine but I still like my Cub Cadet machines better!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
