Congrats on your 782 find! Nice price too! That axle, I'm wondering just how it got to be in that condition? I've never seen one snapped in half like that before, must have been a heck of a hit or fall, or is it that 100+ texas heat? The axle is an easy fix, I hope the rest of the tractors not damaged from whatever broke that axle. Good Luck with it!

A front axle from any 82 series GT or wide frame GT will work in your 782. The recomended super steer axle from a cyclops is a great replacement also.
My 149 had the front axle broke like your 782. The owners dad had it in the back of his truck and he didn't have any ramps to unload it so he just rolled out of the back of his truck. The front end hit the ground and snapped the axle. |

Thank you for all the replies. Great advice. I think they were unloading it when it broke. Don't know for sure but it is a heavy tractor and that I beam is strong but not if it is turned down with a sudden hit. I have a couple of cheap riding mowers with problems. I think I will use a pair of the rear tires and wheels to make a stake bed trailer to pull behind the Cub. Got the skills just need the time.

Just an update. I received a replacement axle from an OCC member and installed it. I picked up a seat from Northern tool. I hope to get the 782 in my garage soon but I am replacing the sheetrock in the ceiling from a roof leak. As soon as I can finish the repairs the cub will get a once over. When I know it is running like it should I will do a paint job and new tires. This will be our little work horse when we leave the city to move to a small 10 to 20 acre place in the country.

glad to hear it's coming together.....you know 10 to 20 acres to a westerner might be small but to those out east that's like rhode island.....

Glad you got some of the repairs done on the 782.
That paint don't look all bad, try a little polish, you'd be surprised what a little elbow grease will do ![]() The 782 is a very versatile tractor, enjoy.

Glad it is going back into duty and it sounds like you are very proud of it. The 782 is hailed by some as perhaps the finest tractor IH ever made--what a cub to have for your first one! Thanks for the update.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
