That looks like a nice tractor you got there. I added PS to my 1811 and guess what I used? Parts from an 1864. If you do a lot of mowing around obstacles then you will be real happy with the PS. I have a JD with foot controls and PS but what I have realized from my 1811 is that with the hand GO lever, that we have, the PS is much more useful than on the JD. When I am in tight quarters I keep one hand on that lever all of the time and with PS it is no problem to grab the knob and make a big turn if needed. With the JD with foot controls you have both hands on the wheel so it really doesn't matter that much whether you have PS or not. um where an owner has used an electric linear actuator with a foot pedal to control the go lever but is working on the return to neutral springs set up when his foot is taken off of the pedal. I'll post it if he gets it worked out.

IMO, it's about $600 too high.

I agree! That is too much for the condition. I did pay $1700 for mine but it only had 260 hours on it and was meticulously maintained and came with factory service manuals, spare filters, Hytran, and 3 sets of blades.

Looks pretty rough to command that kind of price IMHO.

I wonder if the 1864's power steering could be put on a 1863?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
