From the parts pics, I think you are going to find that taking the hydraulics off a 1250 and trying to make them work on the 149, is that the hydro lever/linkage is going to be in the way. I believe that is the difference between the two steering towers. I do, however, think you could swap towers. But, then, you would have just essentially built a 1450. Why not just swap motors, and sell a 149. MUCH less work.

Swapping engines isn't so easy, either. The Kohler AQS engine is different from the engine that is in the 149. The 1250 has a starter and a stator for generating electricity, rather than the Starter/Generator. The Stator and starter are much more efficient. There are no balance gears in the AQS engine, and the oil dipstick.fill tube are standing upright, rather than at an angle. I believe there could be some complications with the pan, as the 1250 utilizes an engine cradle, rather than a solid mount engine. The wiring is much more simple with the electronic regulator, rather than the electro/mechanical style found on the 149. There is a muffler box on the 1250 that wouldn't be found on the older 149 engine and the exhaust would have to be re-routed.

My 2 cents worth is to get that 1250 and use it as is, if the duel hydraulics are functional. Bring it back to stock in as much as possible. Quietlines have their quirks, but I wouldn't run away from them. I rather enjoy mine.

Thanks for all the input so far. I hope to go see it Wednesday. At least now I have some information and ideas to consider when I check it out.

I am aware of the differences. I will clarify, as I was under the impression that the 1250 didn't run, but I didn't really mean to take a motor from the 149.

Most of the "issues" you listed are not really issues. The main difference is one is a 12hp, and the other a 14. Assuming that you had two 12hp, all but the stator will bolt on. The stator requires a rear housing change. Between a 12 and 14hp there are a lot of similarities. Without spending some time in a parts book, I'm not for certain, but I believe all mentioned parts will interchange.

Being that the frame and dash are similar could you put the 14hp it's wiring and hood and grill onto the 1250 I don't know if the engine cradle is removable but seems like the grill and hood would bolt into the 1250 from the 149 then it would essentially be a 1450 look like a 149 correct me if this is not do-able

I haven't even looked at it yet. I've just been too busy. So busy, in fact that it has taken me more than 3 weeks to solve a simple no start condition on one of the 149s. I'm thinking that if I can't even find the time to do a simple fix on one tractor or find the time to go see another, than how the heck can I ever do this conversion? I think I'm gonna quit while I'm ahead and let it go.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
