Lew, your a lucky guy in a lot of ways!

Let me correct myself. It may not need to be done, but should be done.

I have no idea what you're even talking about.

What is it and how do you do it? Why is it important?

I just recently did the same troubleshooting. Quick post with a couple pics. Mine is a 149 though. The tech section here and Roland are the way to go!

Finally got the old girl charging again. I don't think I needed to replace the voltage regulator, I believe what did the trick was just cleaning up all the connections around the regulator. Live and learn.

actually if you look through the schematic all the way when you start to crank, it self polarizes itself. that's why you should never really have to do it

Good job on getting the Cub rolling again!

From what I have seen here, most electrical problems ( short of someone hacking the wiring harness ) are due to corroded connections.

I have sometimes seen crimp terminal connections where the wire has corroded away from the crimp, and the wire is only holding on by a crimp on the insulation.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
