The clicking is the starter solenoid, it is possible the the solenoid is bad or the battery isn't charged or that there is a a bad ground, or not sufficient voltage getting to the starter.
Unless the battery is bad, Sam Mac, is exactly right, follow his instructions and all should be good.

I had removed the 1450 from the shop, and parked it in the shade. Came back a while later to return the tractor, when I hit the key, I thought I heard a "double" start, or something weird like that. { like maybe I lost hold of the ignition switch key,...which did happen } The gent from OCC whom I got the 1450 from, states that the ignition switch is genuine Cub Cadet from a local dealer. It looks bran new,..... hummm,...............

I had a loose connection on the PTO switch give me an intermittent crank condition. I'd get a test light or voltmeter, and a schematic and follow the power to find out where you lose it. If you have power at the starter, it is bad (check grounds too.)

Congrats on the new job. Check all of the connections, Check the PTO switch, Mine gets a little funky at time (just flip it on & off with the key in the start position and see if anything changes). if all else fails try a large screwdriver that you don't care about across the 2 large solenoid terminals.

Just the fact that the solenoid clicks rules out the possibility of the ignition switch and safety system in my mind. Sounds like battery problems, connection problems, bad solenoid or starter problems. Just my two cents.

The same thing happened on my 1450 a couple of years ago and it was a dirty connection at the Battery.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
