Looking at this photo of the driveline assembly (again courtesy of IHCCW.com) it appears that the flange of the pilot bearing is installed the same as what I did. The protruding barrel of the pilot bearing is what I pressed into the bearing cup on the flywheel of the engine.driveshaft.jpg

Don't know if this will help. Pic and parts numbers from parts tree.
29 Cub Cadet IH-126205-C1 Hub Assy, Pilot (Serial No. 612808 & above) Not available Cub Cadet IH-126205-C2 Alternative for IH-126205-C1: BUSHING ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 21 Cub Cadet 941-3004 (replaces 741-3004) Bushing, Ball Looks to me that 29 fits into the cup on the back of the engine, 21 fits inside 29 and then 8 fits over the shoulder on 29.

Thanks for the parts breakdown. That is the same diagram I have in the service manual, but it still appears that the pilot bearing needs to be pressed into the bearing cup of the engine. My problem is I pressed it through the drive plate FIRST, and then into the engine, so I have made a sandwich of the bearing, drive plate, and engine bearing cup. It is working, but I forsee a difficult time replacing the driveplate in the future.

On my 1000, the pilot pushing assembly is driven into the drive cup. Then you put the flex driver disk on.
Here's a picture. The center hole in the drive plate should be larger than the flange on the pilot bushing, so you can remove the drive plate leaving the pilot bushing assembly in place. If your center hole in the drive plate is smaller, then you had to do what you did--you wouldn't be able to do it any other way. If it's in there and working, then I'd leave it alone. It will be many years before you should need to remove it.

Thanks Sawdustdad!! That helps a lot!! The hole in my drive plate is just slightly larger than the outer diameter of the new pilot bearing. I "should" have installed it as shown on your engine, but I pressed it through the driveplate FIRST, then pressed the bearing into the engine making a "drive plate sandwich". Hopefully it will be alright for a while. Thanks for the pic!!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
