According to everything I have read, your 149 should only go 7 mph at full throttle. If it is faster than that, I also suggest checkin the max rpm's. K241 should have a max throttle speed of 3600 rpms. I was messing with mine once and had the rpms too high. The tractor was screaming fast! However, I got lucky I don't blow it up. Check rpms. I doubt anyone messed with the rears. Mark

I just did a filter and fluid change on my 149... and it still ran slow going forward but faster backward. Well I finally decided something more was up, so I started looking at the linkage. Someone installed a governor bolt to keep it from going so fast forward. Even at an idle my 149 hauls ass. I bet it goes faster than our Deere Zero Turn going forward, no joke. So yours isn't an oddball for speed.

Watching that video I left so sorry for that over-reved Kohler. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse he went downhill which could only increase engine speed.

I don't, but I'll get one. Does anyone know a manual that refers to the governor?

I think someone had better be checking the rpm's on that CC. Before they gernade the engine. My 149 moves along at a pretty good clip, but no where near as fast as that machine.

My 149 was too fast, but now it's just right. I actually put a bolt through the cam-slot, to limit travel. I have nowhere around my place, with enough smooth or long enough space to use that much speed. And, with ground engaging equipment, it was even dangerous , because it was too easy, to push the shift lever too far, when changing direction. I now have a good max plowing speed, and a decent travel speed in transport.

ps; I only run aprox 1/2 RPM, as I don't mow with it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
