Guys, it's not hard to get to the bendix gear on the starter. You can take the side panel off the motor while in the tractor.

I agree; once the tin is off, it's easier to get to things. BUT my headache has always been getting that darn tin off!!

I didn't have any problems..... I took the hood, side panels, grille and tins off in about 10-15 min the other night.

Yes i do. Homemade cut off. I tried the cleaning before, only lasted maybe a half dozen starts. They'll come out but not fun. Mike

When I had that issue on the 1872, I opened the tin enough so I could see the bendix,,,, then,,,,

I just "sprayed" the end of the bendix with powered graphite (the stuff for locks)

It worked for 2 years after that, until it left!!
