I want to use the cam in a plow tractor. RPMs will vary when I plow.

That was a good looking pull austin8214. What rpm's was it turning and are you running a stock 26 carb? That's one thing the rules state is I have to run a stock carb so I'm wondering if the cam will let me move enough air with stock valves to run a 30 carb below 4000 on a 12hp.

Merk for plowing I'd suggest the Kerber gov #1 cam. It's a regrind cam and is less aggressive and cheaper than the weld up gov #3 cam. His gov #1 cam idels very well. I have a friend of mine that has one in a 10 HP puller.

He was turning about 4,600 in the video. That is a k321 running a #30 carb. In my opinion you are probably going to be better off running a #26 on a k301.

austin8214 is spot on with his recommendations.
a 26 would be a better choice. you would lose torque by going with a 30. the next time I dyno a 14 or 16 I'm planning on putting a 26 on it to test. just for shits and giggles

I was planing on a 26. The one I have is going to need some attention, throttle shafts so worn that it was running pretty lean. I get this thing together and I need to find a dyno locally to set it up, that and I'm curious as to what kind of torque it's going to produce. Anyone ever drill the base of the carb for a vacum port to set the carb or am I thinking v8 again? Also I read somewhere about drilling the weights of the governor to make them more resposive? The governor makes sence to me but don't know if there is any "tweeking" to be done there.

Hi Don, i'll be waiting to see the results of your dyno test. I have a gov 16 with a 18hp cam that i was running a small stock 30 on. I now have bored the 30 to 1" and also bored a 26 to 7/8". I would like to know which one will perform better. What to expect. Thanks Mike

I know on a 14 the torque is better with a 15/16 venturi over a 1 in. I've always felt that stockers needed smaller carbs but I've not done allot of testing on it. the smaller carb is better for torque at the low rpm.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
