The newer ones have "edgeguard" which keeps the salt out of the grass, but only on the right side. I think I have the mini- I can't remember.

Western (the snow plow company) makes drop style salt spreaders.

I promise you, they are made to hold up to the abuse of salt. You could change that one over from a push, to a pull type. But hang on to your butt when you see how much they are new!!!

You could go look for an old tailgate salt spreader for a pickup. The fan has a control module that lets you speed up or slow down the fan from the cab. Just mount it on the back of the tractor. But again..... you better look for used.

Or, you could buy the motor and controller, and build your own.....

Yeah it'd be nice to grab a used salt spreader cheap from a pickup, I think it'd hold enough for me Problem is, they don't usually go very cheap around here. Cheapest used one I've found has been $400. I think I can come up with something cheaper than that

That's cheap compared to how much they are new!!!

They're like $1300 new for the smallest one they make! List for $1700!

I think I'd buy the electric motor and a controller, use a cheap fertilizer spreader and just make my own. That way you have the cab controls, and a brush style motor that can change speed.

Snow-Ex and Western are both owned by the same "parent" company. The two brands are very similar, but Snow-Ex is cheaper.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
