Default thanks Jon

I have been in HVAC&R trade for 35 years. When I go to buy parts I Know what I need usually, We still have some old school parts guys in the trade. But, I am finding more and more folks on the other end do not have a clue God gave a Cat. Auto parts are worse and I am finding , one better know exactly what we need cause they cant help.
I have a 64 Dodge Power wagon. the Relay for the winch went out so I went to NAPA to get a new...No listing they said. lol ya think? just give me a solenoid for any starter . even brought the old part to show them. Nope they could not help me. luckily I have DC electric Motor rebuilder. they have all of that kind of stuff "on the shelf" plus Alaska gold batteries. not the cheapest but at least they know what they are talking about .and they ask a lot of ?'s to make sure they sell what we need.
thanks,
this is a good site sure glad I found it

I'd rather have my son come home and say "Dad I'm going to be a ballet dancer " rather than "Dad I'm going to be a parts guy"

It really is hard to find a parts guy that actually sells parts, most of them sell part numbers and have no idea what the box contains.

I really feel sorry for the younger guys who are into things that are "less than perfect".

Thanks more and more.
we have several parts stores here, but as was mentioned before all rookies with computers,
I have used red RTV, hi temp stuff for several things and had real good luck with it. we use it to seal up boilers that have had problems with leaks in gaskets. But when the next time comes around to take it off OMG. but not to worried about these heavy cast parts braking 1st. I get a discount at NAPA but still buy some stuff from shucks . I find NAPA is ore of a rebuilt component where as shucks I can find parts to rebuild it myself.
I am also familiar with mc masters . they have anything and everything. I was going to order brake mat'l from them but looks like pads are good just out of adjustment. surprising , because my brother ran the wheels off of this thing.
I have some before pics of the Plugged up cylinder . grease and dirt an inch think all over everything. it was a mess. I'll get off my phone shortly and down load them.
fun project really

At least with ballet there is a future, parts guy is going nowhere. The big guys somehow sell enough wax to make a profit.
Guy running a shop told me yesterday O Reilly's gets his parts wrong 6 out of 10 times. They won't pay, so high school kids is what runs it. They bought out all the independents around here except one.
I sold $388k last year at a 20,000 sq ft store, by myself. Walk into autozone across the street with a part in your hand, all 4 guys there will point to my store.
I got drawers and drawers of Dorman stuff, but it is running out-china doesn't build what we used to build, so I can't get some stuff to restock. Springs, grommets, clevis pins, etc. Dorman just doesn't supply as much as they once supplied or,my warehouses don't buy it..
I was amazed at difficult it was to buy an item at NAPA when I had the part number....
When the 70 y/o owner dies my store will be gone for good. Guys tell me I should buy it but there's no way, only way it is still profitable is that it was paid for in the 80s. Not enough profit to run it AND pay for it. It will be a shame as it is the only place in town to get bolts, studs, hydraulic hoses made right, reasonably priced mower stuff, etc.-weird stuff you need.

Default LB's 147 w/k21 continues

Happy Monday.
I was able to put the new piston and rings into the cub. as was mentioned, I plasti- gauged crank journal came up in the middle of the specs in book. there were a few different specs . but according to book it checked out good for oil clearances. Then before I put on the head I rolled motor over several times slowly and then quickly . I felt no resistance Or bad spots. (Like a ring binding) geez that's a bad day,
I then installed the head, and rolled it over again. NO Problems detected. so back together it went, then back into the 147. I Need to pull the carb and clean it up ,Idle circuit is a little plugged. but it started right up! I let it Idle for a little bit, thing shakes like a Harley sportster . I then Ran it up in rpm a few times. It is quieter with the balancing gears out but I sure seem to hear a rattle at higher rpm. I set the governor up and it works fine the 1st go around, The front drive pulley is bent and has a wobble to it. Now I need to find one of those, clutch works , trans axle is not jerky and quiet but I will dump old fluid and put in the new expensive stuff HYTRAN was a little over $50.00 dang!

If it shakes bad at idle, it may be idling too low. Rattle could be things other than the engine. Glad it didn't have any tight spots this time.

Default LB's 147 continued

after I was satisfied everything was OK I ran it around the yard . finely my sons came out from behind there screens and came out to help. Hmm.
so Nate hooked up the trailer and we began to clean up the property.
5-6-pick up sticks. as long as they have something to drive they will help. pick up a wheel barrow they scatter and disappear. Must be the Minnesota farm blood . Connor jumped onto the MTD made, " White" and started mowing.
as I went to a different part of the woods to pick up branches I heard the Race start. I felt a cold chill run up my spine as they went by WIDE OPEN, the Cub Won. (that's my boys) and the Motor is still running so it passed the "Boys Racing " test.
I talked to one of my bro's back home He has rebuilt a couple of Kohlers',
He said he did a 12 horse and it had a rattle but lasted 10 years of mowing tell deck failed and he bought a new mower. Time will tell I guess.
I double and triple checked torque's on everything I put back together so nothing should be loose. any Ideas?

Could be piston slap if the skirt clearance is too wide.
Could be spark knock.
Could be the PTO.
Could be the driveline.
Could be ............

It takes a keen ear and some experience to know difference between the sounds. I'll say what I normally do in this situation, take a video and post it to a hosting site (Youtube) and we'll have a listen. Maybe it's normal, maybe it's not.

Make sure to retorque your head bolts if you didn't. Supposed to retorque them after a good heat cycle of the motor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
