Thanks for your input, Jeff.
They are great machines, and with the proper care like anything else, it will last indefinitely. I wouldn't worry about the belt with normal use, as it is only operating the hydro pump, and not the actual gear drive tranny like some of the other WH's. It is a big heavy machine, and should be able to handle anything you throw at it. The rear end is cast iron and the frame is very beefy on these guys. I would say in size comparison ...its between an 82 series and the Supers...maybe a tad narrower. They always kind of reminded me of the high wheel Case and Ingersoll garden tractors. The 3 point is definitely a great feature. Parts can be hard to find, but not impossible, at least anything beyond normal maintenance. I've had a few hydro WH's over the years and they gave me no problems, nor did they suffer the leaks that the Cubs tend to suffer from...at least in my experience(dont worry I still love my cubs too!!). I would snatch it up in a heartbeat!

I might purchasing a Wheel Horse D250 from a coworker..it has a Renault 4cyl engine in it...I've wanted one for a long time, but parts are very hard to find....if I can just haggle him down on the price a bit

Let us know how you make out

Jeff (teet)

Jeff, thanks man for the very knowledgeable reply! I am going to bring my cash, check it out tomorrow and I sure am hoping that it will be worth it. It sounds like a nice tractor. It reminded me of the Case/Ingersoll tractors also. I discovered a lot about the D series during my research and the 250 sounds like a really neat tractor...like a sub compact before there were subcompacts.
Now if I could find a Simplicity 9020/4040!

Eat it up? Nah, the GT-14 will hold it's own. What I mean is, the tractor will do everything the Cub can do. The only advantage would be if you put a strap between them and had a pull off.

If it's stuck and needs loosening, use the WD-40.

If it's loose and it's suppose to be stuck, use the duct tape.

Thanks for the clarification! NO pulloffs here, just hoping to get her home and try that 3 point with my harrow in the garden!

Thanks for all of the input everyone. Makes the decision making process a heck of a lot easier for sure!!

I would take a JD 140 or a 300 series or a 400 series any day over a Wheel Horse. I've owned 4 Wheel Horses, a 753, a C-141 Automatic, a C-125 Automatic and a 314-8. Capable machines, but not up to a JD 140 or 318. I would also take a JD 140 H3 or a JD 300 series over a WH GT-14.

I like to be different...every Tom Dick or Harry owns green and yellow...

That's why I have Cub Cadets and a Wheel Horse.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
