I agree. If it's NIB it should be worth what it was when it was bought. Pretty good deal IMHO. Buy something 30 years ago, never use it and get what you paid for it plus some $$........ DEAL!

So late 60's or early 70's
Lets say a #1 tiller with one extension in 1970 at $280 would cost you somewhere around $1700+ today.
And that is with zero $$ for N.O.S. appeal, bragging rights, collector value, etc.

Going by what I was told the tiller was part of a package deal when the PO bought the tractor new. Trouble was he did not garden or have the desire to do so. The tiller followed him from up north somewhere to Florida and then through two moves in Florida. It was always kept in the box and in the dry during the whole time he owned it. My question is if he hated gardening and the tiller was part of a package deal why not get the dealer to sub something for the tiller. It is not like IH did not have plenty of implements for their tractors.

7 or 8 years ago I ran into a dealer that had 2 NOS #2 tillers. they got moved around, lost track of then one day they decided to clean the storage area and found them. they wanted $800 a piece for them. I just said no thanks and thought good luck with that

this one isn't brand specific but that would make it a little handier. around here used and beat up cub tillers are going right about $450

For $1200.00 you can have this tiller and I'll throw in a good running 149 even has the extremely rare IKEA seat cover.

I think the price is high. As far as collectability value added I don't think it would be more than a restored one. If I was at a show and someone said " Hey look at this tiller, it's never seen dirt" I don't think I would be impressed any more than one that just looks like new. That's just me though.
I would be more impressed if someone showed me a basket case pic that they started with and now it looks good

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
