No need to apologize, you're coil is probably fine. Some people don't communicate well here.

More than one coil can work, but not just ANY coil will work.

The Bosch blue coil is the correct OHM coil.

That's why the pullers use it Mr. Mudpatrol. Because it is a fine replacement.

We have about 10 threads a year here where someone slaps a Chevy coil on and ends up burning points.

Once again, if you use aftermarket, make sure it is the correct OHM rating.

Napa IC14 is a 3 ohm coil, is suitable for a Cub. It has an internal resistor (no external resistor required). If you use a coil that needs an external resistor, it will have around 1.5 ohms, which will burn points and not work well.

Dave,

This is from Dave Kirks site;

"Here is an economical alternative to the Bosch Blue coil. The Clone Coil is made especially for us by a major U.S. manufacturer and is an exact duplicate of the Bosch coil in every respect. Featuring the same primary-to-secondary turns ratio and wire gauge, the Clone offers the same 3.2 – 3.5 ohms primary resistance and secondary voltage output and is designed for use on 12 volt systems without the need for a ballast resistor. Internally, the coil is a potted design (contains no oil) and thus is highly resistant to vibration-induced failures. The black color looks perfect on those restored tractors where an original appearance is desired. A bright-plated coil clamp is included and removable double spade connector terminals are furnished on each primary post. This coil is perfectly suited for operation with conventional breaker point ignition or for use with the PointSaver.

Clone Coil price each - $45.00 plus $11.00 Priority Mail Shipping

It might be a bit more pricey than a NAPA coil, I don't know.

Good luck,

Dave

Jonathon is correct. Coils are wound with a specific resistance for the Primary Winding, as well as the Secondary Winding. To get the performance that Kohler wanted, it would be best to use the coil that was designed for their engines.

HOWEVER..........it is your tractor, your time, and your money.....do as you see fit.

You can get them from Primeline. Part number 4151921S.
I just ordered that part number on Amazon. I will stick with the
Kohler recommended coil
Thanks to all

Sure didnt intend to start a war about this

At the parts store I worked, I checked the resistor coil kept in stock, was 3.6 ohms. The other coil stocked was a non resistor.

The Bosch Blue coil is $45 + free shipping on Amazon, I posted the link above. Mr. Dave Kirk fails basic math if he claims his $45+$11 shipping is an "economical alternative"

Keep in mind Amazon loses money and has every year for 20 years. A small business would have gone under 19.5 years ago with that model.

FWIW I have used Kirk, Amazon, Ebay, auto parts stores, sponsors here, and so on so I'm not being righteous

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
