Awesome machine and tiller. Going to be nice to till the garden and get it planted. Just don't plant carrots, a favorite of The Killer Rabbits of Caerbannog. They are....killers, hence the name.

It has been an education, but I've enjoyed it. Nice to have a project on the floor with an end goal. I'm looking forward to trying it out as the work horse mower this summer.

Some paint really would be good on that tiller, but it's in fine mechanical shape and gets 'er done with a will!

They are a good machine! You saved it!
I need help on why my tiller just doesn't work that well? Maybe our tough clay soil??
Regards,
Chris
We do have a lot of clay here, and about half of the area she tilled up had already been worked. The rest was untouched sod and it went right through it. The person I bought it from used it regularly so it shows signs of wear but also good maintenance (despite needing a coat of piant.) My wifes only complaint was that she had to adjust the hydro a lot - it sort of hangs up and needs encouraged then it surges forward so a light hand is good.

I can see how a geared tractor with a creeper gear might work that much better.

They are great for mowing, tilling, pushing dirt/snow, etc. They just keep on going.
You know, but I actually like the electric lifter - if for no other reason than that you don't have to run the engine to move the implement. It seems plenty strong; that tiller is no light-weight to lift. The guy I bought it from advised that I at least have a spring assist. I know they're expensive to mend when they go wrong, though.

The other 147 is missing the whole thing; it clearly had one at one time.

I don't know if it's original or not, but it's pretty rough. I'm either going to replace it or have it recovered. Right now it's covered with black duct-tape!

I know what you mean; I rolled the second rusty 147 off the truck and I could see the look in those eyes: "oh no, not another rusty hunk standing around!"

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
