I don't know if I found anything or not, but it is something. I was looking at the side panels on my 1772 online. The LH panel is Cub Cadet Part Number 703-1076. Looking at the models that use this part I see only 2 models, 1572 and 1772.
703-1076.jpg Now looking at the RH panel (703-1077), it seems to be the same panel among 1512, 882, 1572, 1772 and 782D. 703-1077.jpg Looking at the LH panel (703-0081B-0499) for say an 982 it is widely used among a lot of different models. 703-0081B-0499.jpg Seeing that the side panel spring always breaks above the mounting point on the LH panel, maybe I have the wrong LH panel on my 1772 from the PO. Does anyone know what the difference between a LH panel (703-0081B-0499) and a LH Panel (703-1076) is?

the 703-1076 has slots to let air in on the bottom of the panel and is correct for the 1772

I know on mine, the spring disappears under the radiator support. It can be a pain sometimes. I tried to hook it up behind the radiator, but with the cut out for the muffler in the one side panel, it seems to flex more than I'm comfortable with.
I like the idea of hooking each side independant of each other. I have to fully remove the right side, to check the motor oil. The left side can just stay hooked up. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
