The grille guard pulls up to unlock and then pivots forward, allowing the hood to open.

You pull the grille guard straight up to unlock it and then it pivots forward, allowing the hood to open.

The hood pivots forward and stops short of hitting the grille. No worries about kids - I don't have any. I'll be the only one using it, and I'm careful with my stuff.

Rare 440,
Welcome to the site. That is a nice looking tractor. I really like the front grill guard. I have a similar tractor as you do, but mine is closer related to Shotgun Wedding's GT2100. I have the GT2000. The more I use it the more impressed I am. The one thing I noticed was after about 50 hours or so the engine appears to be more powerful and deeper sounding. I guess that is the completion of the break-in period. I wonder if other people noticed this as well. I like the color of the your deck. A black deck does not show stains, scratches, or dents as much as a yellow one does. I try to keep mine as clean as possible, but it is not easy. If you keep your tractor in the garage, and do regular maintenance, it will last you as long as the older Cubs will--hopefully, I am not opening up an argument/can with that comment. The only thing the older Cubs have over your tractor or mine is they have the Sunstrand transmission. I would replace the Hydro Gear in mine for a Sunstrand in a heartbeat. Again, that is a nice looking tractor. I hope you enjoy it. Lastly, this web site is amazing for getting help and learning. I check out daily and pick up something all the time. |

I am still very happy with my tractor. Although I don't use it a lot, and when I do it's not hard use, I am finding it to perform very well. Very powerful and makes short work of my mowing tasks. Hope you buy one!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
