I am assuming this is the one you were referring to? It seems to be exactly what my problem is. Thanks for the tip as this seems like the easiest fix (assuming that this is actually my problem). |

Once again, I went to start the tractor and got....nothing. So this time I jumped the power wire to the signal wire directly on the solenoid and she fired right up. I decided to do that relay mod posted above. I bought the same kit on amazon for 9 bucks and installed it. A couple weeks later, and it has started every time I asked it to now. Thanks to everyone that chimed in with suggestions! This forum is great for bouncing ideas off each other..... |

I am new to the site, with similar problems. My tractor is a Cub 1042 with a Kohler 19 Hp engine. Over time starting has become more intermittant. I took out the solenoid, and it bench-tested fine. No progress. I took out the brake
interlock switch, didn't know how to test it, so I bought a new one. What a job to replace both of these items. Now I have no juice to the solenoid. It doesn't click. I took out the little solenoid taped to the fuse to the right of the dash, and it checked fine. I can't find a wiring diagram, lots come up, but they are too small and the numbers don't match. I tried to search "solenoid" and alternate wiring, but comes up no match. Can anyone send a link? I jumped the seat interlock. When I jump from the Red battery term to the solenoid (small or large) or the starter it turns, but smokes. Help, please. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
