Today I got some time to pull the engine on this,I have the 2042 donor CH 18 ready to go,just have to give the tractor a bath.
So I figger I see what happened to the engine, pulled all the removables off and put it on the bench to see. Both heads were replaced no too long ago as the exhaust ports are clean and the head gaskets came right off, but I found one bent push rod. With the heads off I can see it had some work done on the block.Either it was bored out,or the gave it a hone job. Pulled off the front cover and found out why it stopped running. Camshaft had a major failure, not sure what happened, but it was not run out of oil as I see no lack of it on the camshaft or where it rest in the block. Well anyway no holes or cracks in the block, prolly just toss it in the scrap pile minus a few things. Pics cause it did happen.

That's pretty crazy that the end broke off. Is the broken piece seized in the hole?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
