The stub on the driveshaft does fit in the rear coupler for sure. Looks to me like the rear of the shaft is hanging free, supported by the SOLID front coupler with a pin through it. If you force them together, you're going to bind up everything.

I installed a new coupler at the engine and a new driveshaft. it has very little wobble at the hyd end of shaft. With the shaft centered on it's wobble (vertically) The center of the shaft to the center of the hyd shaft is about 7/16
off center. I'am going to remove the motor today and take the oil pan off, It should have a part number embossed on it. I was told that Kohler made oil pans that would make a difference in height.(For other equipment). Or maybe
Kohler changed the block on the k301's b/4 retiring this model.

I don't know what's wrong with your drive line alignment but I'd fix it before I put the tractor in service. If you don't, you'll likely wind up with another drive line destroyed.

before you take it apart you should post some pics of the front of the driveshaft and where the engine mounts to the frame, it might help give us a better idea of where the problem is.

Look at this page. Could be your problem?

If you change pans, make sure your dipper doesn't hit the new oil pan.

Driveshaft looks to be too short,The pin does go in the hole. You can try loosening all 8 bolts on the tranny and see if you can move it up for better alignment. And yes, there are 8.

OK, I loosened all 8 Bolts at the trany and only could get about .050 difference in height, And in the pic's of driveshaft the motor is not Bolted down or the end would be in the coupler. So I removed the motor again, Took the oil pan off and the number embossed on it is 47 475 01. I could not find any info on that number. maybe one of you so helpful people would have a oil pan that you could measure the thickness of the pan were the motor mount ????

The bosses on my K301 out of my 122 are 1 1/16", maybe 1/32" more. My eyes and the light weren't good. I know it was less than 1 1/8".

Thanks, my oil pan also is 1.062, I am stumped the only thing left to do is to shim the motor in front to lineup with hyd unit and use the modified shaft fix with u-joint and flex plate at motor, It's the only way to insure proper alignment. I work in a machine shop so it will be a piece of cake.( I hope)

Lets see a picture of where the shaft attaches to the engine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
