Thanks for your responses. This may not be a complete restoration but I intend to return this machine to it's original configuration.

I ran into a guy today that said he was a former employee of one of our sponsors. He went on to say that he spent a good deal of time disassembling derelict machines and placing the parts on shelves, in bins, or wherever but nobody ever made an inventory of these parts. He even told of removing complete power plants. (i.e. engine, carb, ign, muffler, fuel cell, generator) I have visited this sponsors web store in the past and never gave it much mind because it showed little to no inventory except uncounted machines rusting away in a field.
You get to do a lot of thinking while working on your machines. Memories come to me from the seller. He mentioned he has known the owner of this very same sponsor for a very long time. He didn't say where he acquired this machine and I never asked. As I have stated previously, this particular machine appears to have been exposed to the elements for quite some time.
Could it be? Do we think? I'm going to have to make a call.

I made some progress. The tractor is split and the control cam has been freed. Tomorrow comes the steering wheel and column so I can get access to the hydro control friction assembly. If I have time I will chuck a drill motor to the pump shaft and see if there is any happiness in the rear end.

Not shown... the "return to neutral rod" was snapped off at the clevis and the "T pin" is worn to a D on the back side. I can repair that. Is rod supposed to have a bend in it?

Well would you look at that. Even have it trained already to stand on it's front tires.
Good to hear, you're bringing it back to life,

You missed my other post asking about the control rod assembly. Straightening it will be easy enough if that is how it should be. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Alan,
Years ago in a forum thread far far away, I also brought one of these back to life. It was a non running mostly complete tractor. The folks on here supported my every move and question!
Mine is not original. It has some mods like exhaust, seat, tires, and paint theme.
But when I fire this up I have a big smile on my face! Have fun! That 14 horse really barks!

Regards,
Chris

Nice Red 147 you have there Chris.

I almost had an engine this weekend. Almost. Found a 149 on craigslist. By the time I arrived at the sellers place another was driving off with the tractor. Such is my luck.

I spun the pump today with a Milwaukee 1/2" drill motor. Even with only 800 rippums it was nice to see the tires spin.

Spent yesterday hanging out with my grandson. (fondly known as "drool-drool") What know one knew was I took him parts shopping. It was a riot. We came home with a K301, rock shaft, and everything to hang it. I must have dropped the ratchet. Maybe seller will mail it to me.
Yes, I have to find him a yellow hoodie.

The K301 will have to do until a K321 is found. I guess I shall call this one... Under Achiever

Also pictured below is my .30 cent driveshaft fix. I will be doing the Sam Mac series 2000 shaft mod but I needed to keep my hands busy waiting for the shaft to ship. As you can guess the coupler was egg-shaped and the nipple of the shaft was grooved. The bearing was a press fit with some JBW to fill the groove. Then the coupler was bored to a .005 slip fit. Thought I had some conveyor belt laying around to make the rag joint. No luck there.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
