I agree it's BS! Unfortunately that's the way society has gone. Throw away crap! From cars to riding mowers, tv's, telephones the list goes on and on. Here awhile back, I went in where work at Lowes one night, and the storage area out back had 500 lawn tractors in it! From John Deere's to Troy-Bilt's, Husqvarna, and some zero turns. All junk in my opinion!

Boy, now that's selling people in hell a fireplace! Makes on sense not to have replacement parts for that young of a quality tractor. Good grief!

I have been buying CC parts since about 1973 when CC was manf. by Harvester. My dealer had every part for every tractor that had been manf. to that point at a reasonable price.
When Harvester sold out to CCC, things changed as expected. Some parts became NLA but for the most part, still available but prices started escalating. Rapidly. Still later, when CCC was consumed by MTD in the mid '90's, parts prices started climbing like crazy, many more became NLA. At this point, in my opinion, the last of the good CC's were designed/built. Everything from that point on was throwaway junk. I told my dealer and his people, "thanks for your service over the years but don't expect me to be buying any new CC models from you ever again." MTD's handling of CC was a classic case of taking a well respected brand name and milking it for what they could get and then cheapening the product and quality to make even more until the whole shebang goes belly up. |

My wife keeps trying to get me to trade my 2182 off for a new cub cadet so I don't have to work on it, I can't seem to convince her that my 2182 is a much higher quality machine than the new stuff even though it's 21 years old and requires tinkering from time to time.

Let me say this. I believe in capitalism but I also believe in playing fair when it comes to selling a product to the public and especially fair when it comes to selling reasonably priced replacement parts to keep the product running.
MTD fails miserably on the latter but so do all the automobile manufacturers in this country. Many other manufacturers included.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
