When I worked at the small engine shop we had a customer that brought in a push mower... we checked it out and discovered that it was worn out.. low compression.. When he came back one of the guys jokingly told him that he needed to go to the store and get a can of compression! A few days later he came back with a blank look and said where the heck do you guys find this compression stuff.. I've been all over town and can't find any!!

At the IH dealer dad worked for, they had a fellow working the parts counter one time that didn't know much about farm equipment. A long time customer came in and asked for some parts for his diesel Cub (Cub around here is a farm tractor, Cadet is a lawn mower--just clarifying). Fellow searched for a few minutes for the parts book and finally asked the company owner where the diesel Cub book was at. Dealership owner was not amused, but the customer pulling the prank was. Same customer must have told that story 100 times.

My 1782 is in the shop, runs really rough. I'm not up to speed on the Kubota diesels, but I've been told the pin rod on the ram back shaft is shot.
Anyone else had that problem?

It's kind of the reverse of this but ....I will share anway
In the early 80's my Mom calls up at the car dealer I was a tech at , says" hey I fixed a lunch for you why don't you come by at noon" So I did after it she wanted me to get her Lawnboy 2cycle going again to mow the backyard. I tried but it wouldn't run on the carb I took it off and apart ,then noticed I was pressed for time , she really wanted it going ,but I had to go leaving it apart in a cookie sheet with a rag over it ,and telling her I will finish it after work. She asks how it goes together ,and I briefly showed her the needle ,float axle ,etc. she is not great with a screwdriver . Returning after work ,she greets me at the door ,saying " I did a dumb thing , I tried to put that thing you took off back on the mower and get it going . I thought ,oh no, I leaned down to check it out , looked ok , no parts left no leaks , pulled the cord and it roars to life ,ran good , that was a head scratcher |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
