Sam, the deck is still on the tractor but I can say the pulleys are easily spun. I can spin them all very easily with my hand. I had to change the mule drive belt as it was badly stretched and acted more like a rubber band than a belt. |

What is there to confirm? You want a dyno reading?
That's the difference between the engines. Check out all the parts books. 2hp is not hard to drop with a small throttle restricter like that. |

Well I'm going to guess it's a M18. Although I can't tell if it's a 24500 or which variant.
Sam, My PTO pulley is 6-1/8" in diameter |

I'm pretty sure you have the wrong PTO on this critter, should be the small pulley around 4-1/2". What are the numbers on the deck? A pic of the deck will also do.

Is this PTO for a smaller deck or is it because it's off the 20 hp vs the 18 that was apparently put into it? Now the 6-1/8 that I measured was from outside lip to outside lip on the front of the pulley. The PTO Clutch for the 1842 is available, aftermarket, all over. It is 4-1/2" in diameter. Are the shaft sizes the same? Can't find the 2082 clutch specs anywhere nor can I find any aftermarket ones. Only a NOS from Patton Acres. |

OK here's the deal, sometime in this machines life it looks like the M20 that it was built with took a dump. It got repowered with an M18, whoever did the repower found out that the PTO from the M20 wouldn't fit the M18 because they have different crank sizes so they put one on that has the wrong size pulley. What is going on is that you are over driving the deck. Least expensive way to correct the issue is to replace the pulley on the deck with the later style deck pulley, part # 756-3057. You will also need a new belt. I'll see what I can come up with for that. Check back tomorrow.

Thanks for the info Sam!
Might be a stupid question but you intrigued me and I had to go look. Is it possible for me to flip the double pulley on the deck? As it sits now the top, mule drive pulley, has a bigger circumference than the bottom, deck belt/spindle , pulley. Or is it not going to be enough. Now I want to know what this pto pulley came off of. Wonder if it's off of a CH motor. The 2084 has a 6" PTO pulley on it. It also takes the Haban 325 60" deck. I may have been a little off on my measuring. Any way to find out what the warner number of it is? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
