Good save,
![]() I'd check the blower housing to be certain there isn't debris inside. Also I see you painted over the vent, and the pump fins.

looked to have been sitting a good while. Sheet steel looks straight, and tractor seemed mostly complete. I would have never guessed a stuck brake puck. Wonder how many thought it was a bad transmission.
Nice pick up!

I agree with Todd (zippy1), you really need to clean the paint off the vent on the rear. I also don't like that you painted the hydro. Paint is an insulator to heat. Hydro's were left unpainted originally for heat reasons. Will it overheat.... probably not. Will it run hotter, yes it will. On your next machine, don't paint it.
![]() Nice work on the tractor! If you really only picked it up "the other week" you work fast! Stuck brake puck isn't all that uncommon. Too bad you tore it down so far to get it unstuck. It's not all bad. Now you have new gaskets. |

Roger on the vent and hydro. Its just rustolem sunrise red so nothing a little brake clean can't fix. Yeah three weeks total, really loved working on it. Water had also got into the carb pretty gummed up. I found a place here in Kansas, outdoor power deals, that sells replacement carbs for 30 bucks. It was worked great right out of the box other than the choke lever being different. When the engine was out I took all the tins off. That critter had filled inside there too. Maybe down the road it will get a proper paint job but for now its already out at my brothers farm for mower duty. His 1440 is jealous.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
