I know.... that was my point.

READ THE PART BOOK DESCRIPTION STEVE, and you won't be confused.

I didn't even know it was an option for them. Unless it came out as a retrofit after the 2/3 series came out.

I can't even find any information on it. That parts pic is the only reference I can find. My "book" doesn't even list a clutch safety switch as optional on a 70. I assume you are correct.... it was a later option after they designed a safety switch system. Where's Lew? He probably knows....

It was late, but now it is early. I never removed a safey switch from this tractor. Also, I never removed parts 8 or 9 from the last link I posted. Just checked the wiring harness. No orange wire or orange/black wire sticking out of the harness. And certainly only two wires at the back of the incorrect toggle switch. Thank you Jon and Lance. This may have seemed an exercise in futility but it has kept me from ordering a $40 safety switch to replace something that was never there.

Well, here again Cub Cadet comes shining through with conflicting information.

Spent the time to look into this situation, this morning.

Ignition Switches for the 70 & 100 tractors:

(A) IH-403562-R3 is a simple On/Off switch (2 position) and was the original wiring configuration. This ignition switch was used in conjunction with a "push to start" switch on the control panel.

(B) IH-60736-C2 is a switch used with a Starter Solenoid (3 position). This could be used for the above or if the electrical system was modified to incorporate a starter solenoid in lieu of the "push to start" switch.

What is confusing is the "labeling" that IH/Cub Cadet used for these switches.

Attached, is the original control panel layout for the 70/100 Operator's Manual, as seen on page 5.

My hard cover book, TC113, ser#'s 400,000 and below has both listed under "see notes a and b" in the numerical description listing.

But it was issued in Oct '77. notes indicate that some part #'s had been super-ceded by then.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
