I doubt it'd last any longer. It might even wear out faster if that smaller carb makes it run too lean.

I have found on most engines the longest life is when the HP equals 1/2 the cubic inches or less. i.e. a 300cid engine is only producing 150 hp. When you start going over that the life of the engine will start to drop.
Another thing to consider, is with more CID's and less HP, you will normally get more torque. a 400 CID producing 150 HP will have more troque than a 300 CID producing 150 HP.

I just checked my parts book. The 1541 and the 1862 have the same carb. The two pages in the book are the same except the top line that gives the model number. As far as I can tell the 1541 buyers got the 18hp engine and a good deal to boot.

I'm pretty sure matt stated in an earlier post that they have two different carbs with different part numbers.

It seems that Cub Cadet has some issues here with part numbers. I checked both my book and partstree on the internet and they show the same part number. It would not surprise me if they put in the 18hp motor and just told us it was a 15hp.

aagitch,
By your reply you are saying what? That the factory parts book I have is incorrect as is partstree.com. Matt, can you check your book and see if the carb sub parts are different. Perhaps MTD did use different carbs at production, but now only carry one for replacement. John |

I do remember when I originally looked everything up (on the CC parts lookup...not partstree) that the 1541 had a different carb than the 1862 and 1811. Now that I look again I see that the 1541 has the same carb as an early 1862 but different than a late 1862 or any 1811. I suspect what may have happened is that they discontinued the weird carb for the M15 and just replaced it with the same vintage M18 carb. I don't have a parts book.

What's even more strange is I pretended to buy a carb for the 1811 and it changed the part number to KH-52-853-30 in the shopping cart no matter what serial number engine it had. The 1541 showed KH-52-853-23 regardless of serial number. The early 1862 showed the same part number as the 1541 in the shopping cart. The late 1862 showed KH-52-853-24 in the shopping cart which is even different from the 1811. I wonder if that has something to do with the adjustable and nonadjustable carb. It almost seems like the early 1862 had the smaller carb?

then that would have affected the cut quality of a mower deck designed to run with a motor at 3600 rpm unless they also had different deck drive pulleys for that 1541?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
