E-bay makes you state that you WILL accept pay pal, not that you'll only take pay pal. You can accept any payment you like. But the buyer will not be protected. My wife has sold thousands of Items on E-bay. Anything more than $15 gets confirmation, anything over $75 gets insurance. Dont ship to anyone with less than ten transactions and never ship to folks with did not recive complaints. Anyone that thinks that precentage to advertise your item for sale to the entire world of buyers, with feedback ratings is to high. Is simply cheap or tight. Have you ever priced a news paper add. We have a local trade book that you can list things in for free, but 99% of the calls you get are from people with no money or if you do sell it your phone continues to ring for three weeks afterwards.
If E-bay were free it would probably have very little policeing and would be a haven for thives to pray on the public from the comfort of there homes.
Only Gods love, dogs, kittens and old chickens are free!

I'm mixed on Ebay. The rates have obviously gone much higher than before, but that comes from popularity and the monopoly they have on online auctions. I'm not completely against the rates because it's still cheaper than other places as CMA's129 mentioned. I used to sell all the time and probably sold 300 items or so between my old and new account. The no-negative feedback was great because of sellers extorting your feedback (had it done to me on bad items I recieved).
I have had problems though and now NEVER sell on there anymore. My buying has all but ceased as well. I bought a classic car on Ebay that was "solid and only needs spark to be ready to drive". I bought it for $2500 and it was completely rusted to the point that it was sagging and only held together by the doors being closed. It also had not run in 25 years and was basically a piece of junk with very selective pictures to hide the flaws. Contacted Ebay for months and they never did help me out claiming "rust is not covered". Be that as it may, I was blatantly lied to and cheated and out $2500.
Secondly I sold some CCO parts and the guy recieved them and said they were junk. Some of the stuff he was saying I knew was lying, but I said I'd refund them... just ship them back. He demanded a full refund AND the parts or he'd leave negative. My only negative ever.
Lastly I bought another item and it was never shipped. I talked to the seller and he wouldn't give me a shipping confirmation or anything. Ebay would not help despite my using paypal claiming it was a lost item. It wasn't lost... it was just never shipped and the buyer didn't even deny it.

Now that I vented, I think Ebay is decently priced. You just have to account for this when selling. It is a buyer's website now though. Their customer service on the other hand... S***. I'll get beat up on here for that opinion if I have to, but they've cost me a lot of money with their BS "buyer protection that covers nothing" policy. I've only had 4 bad experiences out of ???????, but that in my opinion is 4 too many.

Very well written Ksanders. We lost $700 on an IR jack hammer because the buyer protection helped the thief buyer. Then I had about 8 checks bounce after pay pal cleaned out my bank account. I'm usualy only stupid once-"lessons learned the hard way are not soon forgoten" That was years ago before you ever heard about anybody getting ripped off.
I do belive that ebay is contributing to the demise of the old tractors. I will no longer buy from the sellers that are ripping good machines to shreads just to finance there muscle car addiction "JOES". There are quite a few collectors-lovers of these old machines that have boycotted these vultures and there for sale adds are begining to reflect this as the'll say things in the discription like this was my grandpas or I moved to a smaller yard, But if you look at other items for sale and they have parts from 20 differnt tractors. Or look at the feedback and you can see all they've ever bought or sold are parts.
About 20% of buyers will tell you somthing was damaged in the mail. When you offer a full refund if they return it They just say never mind I'll fix it -"thife" We have only had one negative and it was the first item the lady ever bought, she never gave my wife a chance to make it right.
My wifes big money makers are panty hoes and cloths for BIG ladys If you can find a truck load of nylons you might be the next E-bay millionare!

I recently had an Item "booted" and this is the reason they gave me (copied and pasted directly from email).

CSR Note: Acceptance of checks or money orders are not allowed in eBay. We encourage sellers to accept payment methods that are safe , easy, reliable and offer high level of protection.

My biggest complaint is that Pay Pal takes a percentage of the total amount paid to me. Ebay rules plainly state that I/anyone can not inflate shipping costs to cover "other expenses" so Pay Pal takes part of what it costs to ship the item, they take and I have to make it up. In my opinion Pay Pal should only be allowed to take a percentage of the what the item sells for and NOT part of the money that just passes through my hands ie. shipping costs.

Ebay is entitled to ebays cut (and I don't have a problem with that). But Ebay wants to double dip by getting a Pay Pal fee too. They will not let me post that I will take a Check or Money Order nor post that I will give a discount for those forms of payment, and they will not let me "add on" a Pay Pal fee, for users who do wish to pay with Pay Pal. So I add a percentage to the items price to cover Pay Pal fees then Ebay takes a little bit more, so I have add a little more on the the price to make up for what ebay is now getting and before you know it the price is so high no one wants to buy the item. And if someone does want to buy it and send me a money order as payment, then they are getting screwed for having to pay the "figured in" pay pal fees.

In short ebay should not be allowed to dictate what forms of payment I can accept, especially if it requires me to pay them another fee for the transaction. I'm pretty sure there is a legal term for this and I'm also pretty sure it is illegal.

My father-in-law and I say that all the time. Obviously the parts are worth more than the whole, but why take one more tractor out of existence just to make a buck. Part out a Ranchking not a Cub or JD. People make a killing on these parts. It's not right.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
