Normally yes. Is the piece you broke jammed? Send a picture if you can.

Yeah, tighten the bolt on the fork and just slide it into neutral.

While used is likely fine, you can still buy new ones. Not from CCC.... but they are still made. They are less than $130 too. But more than $50. OP: If you really did break the 1st/rev fork, you have to take the trans out to fix it. The 2/3 shift fork is bad about bending.... 1st/rev not so much. I've only seen like 1 break, and it was on a tractor the clutch was out of the owner was jamming it in gear. |

Finally had some free time last night. Pulled the tranny out which was shockingly straight forward, pretty obvious what to do from here. While I have it out though I wanted to try to fix a possible clutch issue ive been having hoping anyone has some insight of where to start looking. So when I have the tractor usually only in 2nd or 3rd gear and I'm driving a longer distance after a bit I hear this loud rattle that sounds like glass in a jar. When I push the clutch in about an inch it goes away. I had previously tried adjusting the clutch thinking there was just some slack and it was vibrating but that didnt solve it. Also thought maybe it was just the pedal vibrating and I'm an idiot but I wrapped a hand towel around the pedal as a test and the rattle was no where near the actual paddle and stopper. Theres alot of play in my clutch disc, the 3 holes are egged out alot could that be the rattle?

Yes, the egged holes can rattle. A bad support bearing can cause the clutch not to be centered and cause a rattle. You need to just pull the clutch assembly and inspect it. Sounds like a rebuild is in order.

I'll add that to the list. With the transmission sitting on my bench I spun one wheel forward as it was freed up now and noticed the other one spins the opposite direction....so Is it stuck in two gears or something why would they spin in opposite directions all the sudden?

The Skylark has an open differential and anybody who's ever been stuck in the mud in Alabama can tell you, you step on the gas, one tire spins, the other tire does nothin.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
