I found a pulley but I am having trouble reinstalling all the hardware. The spindle spins nice and freely. But when I put it all together in the order I think it goes, it seizes up when I tighten down.
I got the deck with a broken spindle and the hardware was in this order. This is the order I am trying to install it... i never removed the plate holding in the spindle. The only thing removed as far as i know was just the pulley snd hardware. left to right (key not pictured) 20200519_130007.jpg 1. Flat large washer 2. Flat large washer 3. thicker smaller washer with concave end 4.pulley 5. thicker washer with lip/lock 6. washer that fits over the lip 7. White top washer that the bolt/zierk fits into. I checked the service manual for the 149 and it doesnt show this hardware. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. These photos show the order I am installing the above hardware. 20200519_130106.jpg 20200519_130131.jpg 20200519_130139.jpg 20200519_130146.jpg 20200519_130154.jpg |

Thanks, i didnt see that diagram when "googling". But unfortunetly it doesnt show the hardware for attachment..... i nevet opened up the spindlle cup.. i only removed pulley and hardware.
Im thinking there is added hardware here i dont need that the previous guy used to compensate for a broken pulley. How "tight" should the center spindle be exactly? Should it be firm and only able to turn by hand or should it spin effortlessly like it does before i tighten? Ps, thanks for your patience, this mower and tractor is new to me, i apologize . |

If someone out there could help me get this back together I truly would appreciate it, let me know if there are any other photos or information I can provide.
One thing I noticed that might be a missing piece is the lock washer... The other two spindles have star washers directly under the zierk bolt... I have no star washer for the center pully. The washer under the zierk bolt is white and it looks like it may have wear on the top from a star pattern. Im wondering if the other two pulleys would have the same hardware as the center pulley. Again I am going by the 149 service manual and there really is no description of the fasteners. |

That may work but you should check the old pulley bore length and compare it to the new pulley you got.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
