It didn't register with me when we were talking about them initially that I had those out there. I am sorry about that If it is any consolation, those on Ebay are still cheaper than some I have seen on Cub sites that sell OEM and used parts.

Well I didn't feel to bad about the price because in the end it all evens out.

The other day I found the complete mule drive that I needed listed wrong so no one was seeing it in their searches. Opening bid was 99 cents and thats what I won it for.

So the bolt price wasn't to bad.

I think that is a factory goof on the frame. All the 1x8/9 tractors and the QLs up to a certain s/n break should have them.

Factory Goof was my first thought, but now I'm at the point that I don't care "Why" (it's like that) just "How" (can I use it as is). For what I want to do it's just not worth swapping frames with another tractor. Next thought was sawing the collars off of another frame and welding them to this one. If these Frankinstein Bolts work it will be fine with me. I just figure that lifting the tiller will be somewhat of a load so I'll keep an eye on them to make sure they don't twist the frame.

I'll have to check the serial number and see if this tractor was a late model when they were getting ready to do a production change. Maybe it's a morphidite of some kind.

I don't think it can be from a QL because the bolt holes to solid-mount the engine do not exist in a QL; there's a big slot on each side of the axle pivot where the bolts would have been. I've seen enough factory mistakes on tractors to think that's probably what that is if there's no evidence the bushings were removed.

I went out and got the serial # 508244 and checked it out. It points to an April 1974 build date. The tag looks unmolested or disturbed in any way so it makes me think that this is the frame the tractor was originaly built on.
Looking at the holes in the frame...... the holes are smooth and the surounding area is in factory perfect condition. If someone had been butcher enough to cut these collars off (for whatever reason) I can't see them caring enough to do a factory perfect restoration on the affected area.
ANOTHER FIND ..... I checked my other 2 wide frames and and the holes in both the collars and the frame are the same size, like a dime. As stated earlier the holes in the 149 are about the size of a quater. This leads me to believe that it wasn't just a case of the factory forgetting to put the collars on because then the holes in the frame would be dime size.
Standard holes in frame and collar (108 & 129) are 5/8 inch. Holes in 149 frame are 7/8 inch. Does anyone know the hole size in the newer frames that use the frankenstein bolts?

Default Update

Well I got the Frankenstein bolts I ordered and they are a perfect fit in the frame holes. The length is also right on, as is the fit into the lift casting. I guess this is one of those things that will never have a proper explaination. I will get the lift on this comming weekend. Thanks to all who shared and offered their expertise on this problem. You guys and this site are great, because I was totally stumped. Thanks
