Let go all the way back to when you first posted.....
You wrote: "Then I took off the air cleaner and put some fuel into the carb and it started fine." Today, If you do that again, will it start? It it does, then you need to concentrate on a fuel delivery problem like Roland pointed out in the second post! Otherwise, you might have made a bigger mess chasing this no-start problem for the last couple months.

Put a friggin' voltmeter or test light on the positive post of the coil.
Do you have voltage when you turn the key to the on position? Do you have voltage when you turn the key to the start position? If the answer to either or both questions is no, persue a keyswitch/electrical problem. If the answer to both questions is yes, persue a fuel problem. This ain't the Mars Rover we're workin' on! |

If it won’t even try to start on starting fluid, I would imagine it has to be an ignition problem of some kind, assuming you haven’t been inside the engine recently.

Pitch the dam starting fluid!!
Do you have compression when cranking? I'll bet not. |

You need gas, air, compression and spark for this to run.
Do you get spark if you lay the plug on the head and crank it?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
