Well, according to MTD, it was a 15-HP twin cylinder. It was never marketed as an 18HP.

All engine Manufacturer due that Just Like the Kawasaki engines in Deere which use some of the same engines are marketed at different Horsepower. How the Manufacture came Up with That Who knows, But the 1541 was marketed as a 15HP twin-cylinder Kohler, not an 18HP twin-cylinder Kohler. Not that I really trust Tractor Data, But https://www.tractordata.com/lawn-tra...41-engine.html

BTW Kohler has had a History of Making engines Just for MTD That they don't market under their Own Label. Just as they do today for some of the MTD Cub Cadet Lawn tractors

Well I retired from the Army after I got back from Afghanistan. In April 2002 I Bought a Cub Cadet 2206 for My wife to use at our Home In Illinois as I was given an age waiver to become an Illinois State trooper. So I figured she'd be Home to do the mowing, and she didn't Like John Deere (she was a Massey-Ferguson tractor Mechanic) at one of her grandfather's Multiple tractor dealerships In Canada before we met. So there is some anti-Deere History there.

Well Two weeks later, we Came Back to Illinois while waiting to start the Illinois State Police academy. I worked for a Friend of My Father Laying drywall, and at a customer's House he had a Cub Original which he used once a Month to Cut down their 3/4-acre Lot. He had Finally gotten Landscapers and didn't need the Original anymore, so He Gave it to Me.

I bought a JD X485 in 2003 year for myself a week Later I was at My Parents House where I grew Up and the Neighbor down the street whom I used to watch In the winter throw snow off his driveway with a Cub Cadet 106 had passed away, and His wife was moving, so I Bought his Cub Cadet 106 with a QA36A thrower, 5HP Peco Bagger, Homemade Cart. I should Have Taken his Parker sweeper as well (but I didn't) for $450. That 106 is what really gave Me the Cub Cadet Bug, That 1970 Cub Cadet 106 has been my most reliable pre-1980's Garden tractor I got a Pre-production Model 60 in 2006 when My friend and Neighbor were I grew Up (IH Cub Cadet Test engineer David Stevenson) was On his death bed dying from COPD. He told his family Make sure they Boy gets My 60. Keep In Mind he was still calling me a Boy when I was 42.

The following year I was Given a Model 70 by My friend who was forced into a retirement Home . That's when I Knew I Like Cub Cadet Just as Much as John Deere also Got a 1974 JD 140H3 In 2006 and a 1969 JD 112SF in 2007

Wow! Quite a nice story about your acquisition of equipment over the years. It is interesting to hear about the many situations that led to you becoming the new owner of all this equipment. Thanks for sharing!

The Kohler spec number is the same for both engines. Even the most minor difference in Kohler motors results in different spec numbers.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
