Cool Surging

Big Nasty;
If you figure out that surging problem let me in on the cure. I've got an 18hp twin cyl. Briggs with a similar problem, I got disgusted last year and shoved under a tree and gave it the finger and havn't looked at it since. Except to notice that it has the same size tires as my 102 whick needs some.

I never drove a B model Mack, I did drive an L200 International semi tractor at one of my Jobs when I was really young, had a steering whell about 3' across and couldn't turn it around on 100 acres.

I haven't been around a Speedex, and what I'm about to say is just second hand knowledge, but I hear they're a bear to work on - very complicated, even more so than a Cub Cadet and a John Deere. I'm not sure I would want one anyhow. Now a Power King or an Economy or Jim Dandy........

I've owned two Speedex tractors. IMHO, they don't compare to a Cub Cadet.

I heard some of the Speedex, depending on transmission, you had to shut off the engine and move the belt to a different pulley groove to obtain a different gear speed. On others, with the Peerless transmission, you didn't have to do that.

cadetfarmer, the rear tires on the Speedex tractors I owned, were 7-16 and 8-16.

If this idea works out, I will be posting some very usefull information.

If I understand this correctly, the taller tires on a speedex gives it more traction.
Sooo if a Cub Cadet had taller tires, it should then get better traction?

Hmmmm!

Gotta try something, someone told me once.
If anyone has any input on this idea, I would be glad to hear it.

as i learned from building a truck motor once once you build on part bigger you expose the weakness in other areas, put in bigger motor and tranny lasted i week replaced that and rear end lasted 8 months.

point is if you increase traction there will be a point that another part could fail. just somthing to consider before you jump in to a project.
