It actually sounds to me like 1 cub is not perfect for you...of course I don't think anyone here thinks that 1 cub is enough, but that's due to the addiction. With all of the issues you have with your back, it sounds like you need cubs that are dedicated to specific purposes so you're not having to change out implements.

ya, there's no one cub that can do everything.... that's why you need at least 4!!! One for mowing, one for plowing, one for snowblowing, one for showing off.......

Brainac asked who made the Diesel engine...Kubota! The 782D has a Kubota D-600 3-cyl 15 hp diesel... got one and love it... Parts, if needed, are available from any Kubota dealer usually at a lower cost than from MTD/Cub Cadet...

I'd say the 782 is top dog, with the 982 coming in very close to 2nd. There is nothing they can't do, they run smooth as silk, and have tons of power.

Although, I can't help but love the sound of a 1 cylinder Kohler under a heavy load. The twins don't sound as good.

I'm pretty new to Cub Cadets, having incorrectly labored under the belief in Green and Yellow tractors for too long, but I presently have a 149 that I would suggest might be at least one of the better cubs (and best garden tractors) ever made. My part of Pennsylvania is enjoying a winter that presently ranks as the 4th snowiest on record, and the 149 is enjoying every minute of it. It's got power to spare, I find the attachments intuitive to mount and use, and it looks fierce. I'm not going to question the legitimacy of the 782D though, if I found one I'd buy it for sure.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
