The difference in belt length is because the gearbox does not bolt to the trans on the aluminum rear, it connects to the back of the 3-point, which is several inches behind the rear cover plate.

Default IH Cub Cadet 782; IA U1111 Tiller belt
What identifies that my model 782 has an aluminum or cast iron rear end?

The Serial Number on the IH Cub 782 is: 2050601 U740301

This is the complete string of digits on the Serial Number plate; it also has Model 145782399.

Is it best for me to sell the A1 U1111 and locate a different model?

The part after the U is the serial number. Any tractor above serial number 719,999 has an aluminum rearend.

The 1A can be made to work with any of the three options I mentioned in a previous post. The only other tiller that will work is the 8hp gas-powered Cat-0 3-point tiller, but that will require a Cat-0 3-point hitch.

Thanks for the info Matt. There is always something new to learn and try and remember. I am like an ole mule, I seem to like having a 2x4 upside my head to teach me to remember and recall things. Over and over, LOL.

Default IH Cub Cadet 782; IA U1111 Tiller belt
My IH Cub 782 has a 3-point hitch.

I would like to use a tiller that runs on belt power; and not a tiller with a separate motor...

Does having a 3-point on the garden tractor change any instructions on using an IH 1A tiller?

I believe so. The manual lists the Three Point Hitch, Model Number 389.

I will attempt to attach a photo or two. (not having too much luck getting pics show up...I think it loaded, but not certain.)

Any suggestions are appreciated...

You have the Cat-0, so what you need is what I posted pictures of that I made for my 782D.

It looks like I need to learn to do some fabricating... Being a farm kid, I am used to 'making it work,' but I also don't want to damage what I already have.

This might be outside of my normal realm of expertise...

If anyone finds a simpler alternative, please let me know.

Regardless, the expertise and guidance provided is more than I could have ever hoped for!!!

The institutional knowledge you guys have is amazing!

Default IH Cub Cadet 782; Tiller Mount
Would it be easier if I bought a different model of tiller for my IH Cub 782?

I don't know how long it would take for me to find one, but want to know if there is a different model of tiller that is easier to use with the model 782...
