You did a lot more than I am doing to mine. But even with what I'm doing it is a big job (especially when I keep having to redo stuff).

Not much progress recently. It is about 85% done, I still have to sandblast and paint a few small parts, repaint the hood, and break in the engine. I am hoping to start work on this again in the next few weeks.

I had a new seat cover made, and just got it back today. It turned out really good.

Time to blow the dust off this thread. It has been way too long since I have worked on this tractor, but I’m back at it and planning on finally finishing it. A couple weeks ago, I dug it out of the corner and got it running. I had to clean the carburetor and put a new battery in it, and I had the driveshaft out, so I had to put that back in. I had it covered in the garage, but it was still dusty and covered with spider webs, so I took it outside and washed it. Then I took it for a ride for the first time since 2017. I let it run for a while to start breaking in the motor, then let it cool overnight and retorqued the head bolts. Next time I have it running I have to get it warm and change the oil. Now that it’s running again, it’s time to work on getting the rest of the parts painted for it.

I was not happy with how the hood and dashboard turned out, so I decided to redo them. I ended up stripping the hood back down to bare metal. The four corners have dimples from where the supports inside are spot welded on. They are all like that, but it annoys me so I filled them. I also redid the front edge on the dash. It was worn down from the hood rubbing, like they all are after 50 years. I fixed that before, but I didn’t have the line exactly right and it didn’t look right against the hood. I never checked it against the hood before it was painted. This time I left it on the tractor while I was working on it, so I could make sure it was right. I finished them up last week and got them in primer. Next, I have to get the rear wheels, seat, gas tank, and a few smaller parts ready for paint.

The hood should not touch the dash, only the rubber hood bumpers.
Something is not adjusted properly if it actually touches the fiberglass portion of the dash.
Probably the hood/grill ass'y is a bit too far to the rear. There should be a noticeable gap between the rear edge of the hood and the forward upper portion of the dash.

Yeah, I know that, but apparently the previous owners didn’t. It will be adjusted right when I put it back together. This is not actually the original dash from this tractor, the previous owner gave me an extra one when I bought the tractor, and this was the better of the two. The one that was on it had that whole edge worn completely off, along with some extra holes drilled in it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
