Update to the herd
Just wanted to include an update for our pack of cubs.
From left to right: 1715 Bought as a runner but needed a LOT of stuff! Located a deck and all the various parts to get it moving again. I made the hood decals out of some model airplane adhesive sticker tape you can buy at the hobby shop. It comes in sheets of 5x48". i just matched the colors and replicated the decal the best I could. Doesn't look too bad. Did some spot repairs and a little painting and voila! She now mows my grass with a LOT more style than the cheap-o riding mower that I used to use. '62 Original (Puller) Bought it already painted but, needed work. EVERY bolt and nut was loose, the S/G was wired up wrong, rebuilt the steering, repaired the hole in the hood that someone cut to make room for the fuel tank (it has a 10-horse in it which makes the tank taller). I also fabbed a new mount that tucks it between the engine and the battery. Installed some 26x12x12s and wheelie bars and she's my puller. '62 Original Just got this one. PO said it didn't have spark. Filed the points a little, chased out the old, dead hydrocarbons from the fuel tank and with some direct-current coaxing, she fired right up! Will be tearing this one down shortly with the idea of painting it and dolling it up for more of a driver for my youngest son. It drives great! The clutch and brake work perfecct and smooth and the engine doesn't smoke. The S/G makes some noise (most likely a dry bearing) and it doesn't charge (most likely the regulator). We''ll address all of those issues as we bring back some color to the ol' girl. Anyways, that's our cub clan. Hope you like 'em! |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
