So here is a pix of the short, vs the long spindles of a super steer axle side by side.
The difference measured at the hood, on a 1650 with a super steer axle installed is 2-3/8" Also, the long spindles have a tighter turning radius then the shorter ones. |

I used the shorter ones on this 782 build because I don't really like the nose in the air stance... reminds me of an old bulldog!

I just put the short ones on the 1650, still have the long ones on the 782.
Like you, I don't like the stance but it allows a really short turning radius and the ability to raise the deck up higher for mowing corn stubble & weeds. What I don't like about the supersteer is, the scuffing of the grass on tight turns around trees/obstacles, but that is the ackermann effect. |

As I am now gathering parts for this upgrade on my 1450, I found this on E-bay. Is this the steering column I need or should I look for one without the tilt ? And is this a decent price?

Well that is not power steering, and I don't think it will bolt up to your manual
bracket. Price: I paid that for a Deere power steering unit for my 1650 and just a bit more for the power Deere unit on my 782 (both the same units) I'm sure someone will be along to give better advice than me . |

Just a heads up guys, the late 1862's have the tall spindles. So you need to check serial numbers. The axle I have for sale has tall spindles.

I would think the terms are interchangeable in this case.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steering_knuckle. But I would not argue terms. |

Guys! I am most appreciative of the comments that have been expressed here. But I want to do this upgrade to my 1450. So far I have been schooled on length of spindles/knuckles, what the definition to spindles/knuckles according to Wikipedia, and what i will have to do with deck should I use the short or the long spindles/knuckles.
Olds stated I needed an axle from a 1440, (of which I have found,) the 3 turn box I'm still in search of because I'm not sure of what I need. I posted an e-bay item that was a steering column from a 1440 but with tilt and I assume a 3 turn box. All I need is for someone to advise me of what I need for the steering column or if have to modify the original steering column, I can work the installation out if I have the right parts. Again thanks for all the comments and advice.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
