Any beard hairs on the parts?

Yep! Filled the garage with nice fluffy black diesel smoke. No radiator yet so I could only run it for a couple of minutes. Found out the cork gasket leaks, and after only 20 plus years too. I wonder if it's still under warranty?? ( I had planned to replace it anyway)

Well, after getting CubDieselFan's 1572 delivered last week, I thought it best if I got back onto one of my projects. The 1782 has been patiently waiting for attention, so I dug in and finished the under hood stuff, welded up a muffler and took it out for a "road test" even though the fender pan is just sitting on the frame and there is no seat yet. It ran get and everything worked fine. After testing, I pulled it back into the shop to address servicing the rear axle and hydro. I had planned to do a cork gasket and replace the axle seals, but after getting into it I found the shaft seals on the hydro were seeping, so a total re-seal is in order.
The fluid looks pretty funky and smelled terrible!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
