Got the tractor split. Drained the oil from the transmission. Trying to remove the brake arms and shaft from reduction housing. Brake shaft is really stiff, won't hardly turn. The pins in the arms are really stubborn. I wedged a piece of 1x2 between the axle housing and brake lever near the pin for backing. The first pin's end shattered when I used the roll pin punch on it. Tried the other arm's pin and got it flush with the casting and it won't go any further. Bent one of my cheap Chinese punches beating on it. Is the drill next?

The pins are hard, you wont be able to drill them. It's probably mushroomed on the end. Drive it back a little and grind the end off and try again.

I put some heat around it got a BF hammer and BF punch, 3/4 in pipe against a concrete wall for backing and took some BF swings and it's out. 2 hours. Am I all wet or is a 1/4 in. coil pin overkill on a brake lever? I wished it would have been in my drive line coupler rather than the skinny roll pin that started all this. But I'm having fun getting acquainted with every nut, bolt and PIN on my girl.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
