Yes that spring supplies the pressure and yes that clutch is aluminum that is not a kid friendly clutch set up either. If you want your grandson to drive it you'll have to lose the red spring and get a Kevlar disc to replace the aluminum one.

And Donny he is in Northern Illinois. So I am closer!

If it ever STOPS raining, i would love to get it out and clean it up and get it started.

Looks like whoever built it put some time into it. There are small "suitcase" weights that are removable. There is room for 5 on the back. You can see one setting on the floor between the wheelie bars..

There are more hangers in front of the rear tires...

I've been trying to ID the engine. The only markings I see above the crank is what looks like "D 5" cast in the block.

I can tell by looking at the head its a 10 to 14hp with a new style head with the plug over the exhaust valve. You could pull the head and measure the piston to know for sure.

Looks like a nice tractor!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
