No..... you can't do that! You'll blow the seals right out. You have to put a zerk in the side. Drill the case, thread it, screw a zerk in. Then LEAVE IT. You can't just put a zerk in the top hole and pump.....

I used a needle on my gun to squirt some in.

That might work.... I'd squirt a lot in though. After seeing what was in mine after the break down, (virtually nothing) I'd keep as much in there as I could.

I did it when it was warm out side. Grease doesn't like to move very well at 20 degrees. I squirted until it came out the top. After an once or so of 80-90. Did fine for the 2 hours I used it a couple weeks ago. Full tear down coming this summer.

I'd do what Shrewcub suggested.... use a needle fitting to squirt some grease in. I honestly don't think it would hurt to put some gear oil in it too. Then you'll have the 50/50 mix. Just check the box before each use until you know it isn't leaking out.

Haven't yet, but going to. I need to disassemble it. I haven't taken the main box on the 450 apart since I bought it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
