I think that is one of the most common mistakes made when installing seals. The must be dry, clean the area up with alcohol or something to remove the oily residue. Then install the seal. |

Well you used the proper part #. Is the bore that the seal fits in worn from the seal spinning? If the Kohler seal is giving you trouble the seal from Napa is the correct number, you may want to try one of those.

first you need to clean the hole out with brake cleaner to remove any oil, secondly an old timer tought me to always put a dab of grease on the back of the seal where the garter spring is to keep it from falling off during installation. i almost never install a seal dry whether its a car, truck, lawn mower etc. i use permatex hi tack spray on the outside of the seal before installing, helps seal it and hold it in place. hope this helps

.
Ok, when this first started leaking a year ago I suspected a leaking oil pressure switch, but then I saw oil coming from behind the pto so I replaced that seal and it seemed to be fixed. Now a year later the oil pressure switch is leaking. So it was probably leaking a year ago but just got worse recently. At first I thought it was the crank seal again, but luckily it's not.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
