A knocking sound when turning can come from the inner end of the axle bumping against the spider gear pin. If you don't find anything else wrong check that when you put it back together. Good luck

Thank you Dart1917! Going to make a final check on this differential, clean it up, assemble, and get ready for paint prep..

Default Update, still at it!

Well, I just could not find any source of problem for the differential. Everything inside the case looks good! At the moment, I'm cleaning up the trans and lower sleeve hitch bracket for primer and paint. Moving on will be the suction tube, and servicing the brake calipers, painting those as well.

There are never enough hours in the day to work on my 1450! Ha!

Have a good day gang!

Cool

Thanks twoton! I just got the brake calipers sandblasted at work today. I have been working on cleaning up the transmission and related components, rather not "diving" in head first, lol! I sure do miss the 1450!

I also got a hole saw to make a jig for the hydro pump to sit in. Now I'll have to make and sell more jigs just to break even on that cost, lol! Also, I came across a cool drill press for free, and it seems like it's good and tight. I figure I can now make my own new drive shaft, and put some grease fittings in the rear lift, among other places!

I know, I got to get busy and get some pictures up, though my camera is starting to show it's age, lol!

Also, I have a nice, old Sears rototiller that's a stick-shift walk-behind. I'm seriously thinking on adapting this to a sleeve hitch for my 1450.

So its been a while. My length of 4140 came in today! I figure to make my own custom driveline for this 1450, with double flex joints at each end. Just $14.85 for a 3' length from McMaster-Carr { part# 8927K98 }.

With the sky-high prices for a shaft with two 1/4" holes in it off the internet, I'm ahead on making my own. I've seen prices from $65 for drilled to $30 for a blank shaft.

WOAH!

Got to get the 1450 frame clean before the weather turns cold, lol!

Thumbs up update

Well, I've been stalled out for a while. Wife and house pretty much took care of that, lol! But now with the summer season drawing to a close, it's going to be from now through spring that I'll be getting this 1450 project under way.

Lots I want to do.

First, I'm lucky to have had gotten permission from my place of employment to use our machine shop to make my custom drive shaft for my 1450, all the machine equipment is there.

And secondly, my new Firestone AG Flotation 23 x 10.5 x12 rear tires for this 1450 are now in rout to me! I have an extra set of 8.5" rear rims I plan to drop off at the local sand blasting shop, and primer and paint them.

Going to enjoy the project! I swear you could hear a frog pissing on cotton around here its been so quiet, lol!

This morning I dropped off the 8.5" rear rims at the local sandblasting and painting shop. The rims I got were for free, and not in terrible condition by any means. The shop said my rims would be done in a couple days. For $30 and not having to get my hands dirty, I thought that cost was just fine! Looking forward at the total cost of each rear wheel after primer and paint, easily over $200 for each wheel ( wth ) . I'm glad I have a good set of Carlisle up front on this 1450, lol!

So, I'll be getting on with addiction with information and pictures shortly. Have a good day guys, and stay cool!

Did I read that right? They're going to sandblasted and paint two wheels for $30?

I can see why you thought that! No primer and paint. Just plain old sandblasting! I'm just going to rattle can the primer and paint but I'm not going Snow White on the rims. To match the front I'm going to need some official Cub Cadet white.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
