Maybe somebody needs to make a taper-lock to tighten on the worn splines like they do on the JD 2 cyl. flywheels. Or do they, and I just haven't seen them? I do know they make various taper lock pulleys for the 1-3/8" PTO shafts on farm tractors. |

Replace the seal. Put some of this stuff or something like it on the splines of the shaft with a new couple from Jeff and Be Happy.

I’ve messaged Jeff in the past about my 1782 and this issue. Mine also has an issue where the center bolt that threads into the shaft either fell out or wasn’t put back in as the threads are damaged and someone drilled and tapped the outside of the coupler for a 1/4 x20 set screw and installed it which mucked up the splines further than normal. Needless to say lots of movement and leaking seal because of it. $600 for the shaft ouch. Jeff’s price on the coupler is great and hoping the longer spline engagement will work in my case when I finally get time to tear it apart.

The 72 series uses a spirol pin to retain the coupler, the Cyclops use a bolt in the center of the shaft. For the Cyclops just find a used pump and use the input shaft in your pump. On the 72 series I would do the same thing and get rid of the spirol pin. Remember that the Supers have a different output shaft from the GT's.

Latest update... Jeff sent me part of a coupler and when I put on the shaft it was tight! Now the bad news... I was looking over my driveshaft and thi is what I found... long story short, I’m going to convert to the CV driveline.

one thing I've noticed about the diesels... they really beat on the driveline!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
