Thanks for the support guys. I kinda had it in the back of my mind when I got it though, and figured even if I had to repair/replace it that it would still be worth it. I just thought when I cleaned it up an got it going that it was dumb luck. Oh well. Like I told my wife, there are waaaay worse things I could be spending money on. It'll be up and going again soon enough. Plus now that the rear end is out I can really clean it up good.
The PO painted the fender without prepping it and the paint is flaking off, so I'll probably clean that up and repaint it now too. I learned a LOT about the different hydros in these things in the last few days, so that's worth something to me too. |

Thanks cooperino. It just doesn't pay to get all grumpy. All you do is make the job 10 times worse, and make everyone around you grumpy too! Yeah it sucks, but that's half the fun of having these tractors. I like wrenching and tinkering. Otherwise I'd of just bought a new compact tractor a while ago an been done with it. What's the fun in that!
Do any of you have any idea where to get a coupling for the rear PTO shaft? The splined end on mine is pretty worn. I have Jeff working on it, but just curious if any of you know. It's the one that connects to the through shaft on the top of the pump, and the PTO drive shaft. 717-3023 was the Cub number. I found one online for $268 bucks, but I think that's a little steep? |

Just a quick update on this. Everyone around here has been just awesome. Thanks a ton to Charlie from CCS for all the help finding a pump, and the correct one! I have the rear axle stiffeners and some other bits and pieces coming from him. Ray from Ray's IH parts is sending me a pump, and Jeff Derstine is going to machine a new coupler for the PTO shaft. What a great bunch of guys. I'm almost glad the pump failed for the opportunity to deal with these guys, and everyone here.
I'll keep you updated as I get the parts here and put on. I'm pretty sure I have everything flushed out good. What a PITA! I just need to scrub up the rear end again yet. I still got peeled up knuckles from the last time. |

Jeff does awesome work. I need to send him one of my pto's so he can copy all of the parts and make them for us.
Here is a splined coupler but it will need to be machined on one side. https://www.surpluscenter.com/Power-...ing-1-2985.axd Here are the 2 couplers and shaft. Make sure your holes aren't (as we say in the south) "wallered out". IMHO, Cub Cadet did a poor job engineering the rear pto system. Too many pins and couplers. Jeff found the same one on eBay with a little cheaper shipping.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-4-11-TOOT...kAAOSw-wJaAOHB The only spot that's "wallered out" is where the splined end is going to the hydro. The roll pins were tight in the rest. They fought pretty good coming out, but were no match for my air hammer! |

Just thinking about your pump failure. My guess is some of the brass parts in the pump took a dump, I'd be concerned that you have some debris in the hydraulics like the steering and as the oil flows through the system it will return to the new pump. I'm wondering if you could rig up a filter on the return line to the pump?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
