I jus shot my 104 the other day, OUTSIDE, in IOWA, in the middle of FEB!! w/iron guard. Turned out super.
Can't wait to get started on reassembly! Another really close match for the yellow is Rustoleum #280145 Transport Yellow, hard to find around here though. |

I'm restoring a 102. The "majic paint" from TSC in quarts isn't horrible if you use reducer and hardener. It takes 2 or three coats and 24hrs between coats. Their rattle cans are horrible all the way around. No coverage and no pressure coming out. Gonna try urethane enamel next and see how that works. Just my two cents

Folks have posted in this thread and elsewhere that Dupli-Color (Duplicolor) School Bus Yellow is a good match for the old cadet yellow. Its not, or not anymore. I had my carb and tank off to rebuild and clean and seeing that the Dupli-Color was a good match, ran to Pep Boys to pick up a can to shoot the tank, air cover, and some other parts. The cap looks close but the actual paint is way off. See photo. I thought this can must be a bad batch to be so far off from the cap color, so picked up a second can from a different store (O'Reilly) with different packaging and got the same way off pale yellow color. Maybe they changed their formula but I definitely do not recommend. What a waste of time and effort.

This is an old thread and there are a ton of paint threads here. I would suggest next time or any time your using rattle can and trying to match a color. Spray a small test piece first. I have returned rattle cans at home depot already for lack of pressure, wrong color etc. But they can't refund your time.

Paint...
I see a lot of complaints about drying time on the Magic yellow paint sold at Tractor Supply. Keeping in mind, drying time depends on the temperature and humidity makes all the difference in the paint curing time. Also make sure at the time of purchase that the paint you are buying has not been subject to freezing temperatures.....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
