I can't say for sure, your image is too small for me to see. Kinda looks like it.
I have been thinking about this. I am guessing, that there is an issue with the wiring or one of the safety switches, and the PO ran a wire (BLK ???) from the S terminal on the Ignition Switch directly to the Starter Solenoid, thus bypassing the safeties.

The wire in your hand and the one on the solenoid, are they the same wire? If it is, I bet it was shoved into the "S" terminal of the ignition switch. This will bypass the safeties so the tractor can start. The Cyclops machines are known for horrible wiring issues. Time to break out the dvom and check the wiring. (oops, that's what Roland posted too)

I appreciate all of your thoughts and directions. I will check to see if the wire has voltage with the switch on, as well as the ignition switch S terminal issues you've mentioned. I will say that the safety switches seem to be functional prior to all this.
The wire in my hand is the same one running into the solenoid. |

UWell here it is! I'm working over the phone with my friend giving him directions:
With the key on the wire had voltage going to it. With, or without the brake pedal depressed there's no dash warning light (must be a bad bulb), but will have to check further when I'm there in person. I had him turn on the PTO switch with the key off (sitting in the seat) and it wouldn't start, plus the dash light came on). Then I had him shut of the PTO switch, and guess what, it turned over, intermittently. It wasn't making contact everytime he hit the starter switch, but did finally start. I told him to clean all the contacts on the PTO switch, and when I came out tomorrow I would do the same on the brake safety switch. I'll take some replacement bulbs out for the dash to be sure they're all working, go through the start up procedures again. It seems possible the the S plug on the ignition switch scenario is a plausible explanation as to where that mystery wire from the solenoid goes, time will tell. Any comments, or suggestions? My friend is 74 years old, and doesn't have the eyesight to do some of this, that is why I need to be there for certain things concerning this problem. |

The only reason I see the black wire on the solenoid is to bypass the safeties. I bet that is why it’s on there. If you plug the black wire in the S terminal it will start. I’m thinking the PO did that because of the issues with the wiring.

If you have the correct Wiring Diagram, and the correct Ignition Switch, there is a "switch legend" at the bottom of the page, that indicates which contacts are open and closed in each of the four positions.

Well I removed and cleaned every wire connection on the brake pedal safety, and PTO switches. I also cleaned all contacts coming from the solenoid into the large plug, added Dielectric grease to all contact points, and now the motor will start everytime, except now I don't have any power to the dash warning lights on the right side of the dash: Depress brake pedal. Disengage PTO, and Reverse, however there is power to the warning lights on the left side?

IF.....you follow your diagram, you should see the following:
#4 - Water Temp - GRY Wire #5 - Amp Sensor - WHT Wire #7 - Oil Pressure - BRN Wire All three go to the 6 pin Engine Connector that supplies a ground path for each of those indicator lights. #6 - Fuel Sensor - VIO Wire - Ground path. The RED/WHT is continuous 12VDC + power as long as Ignition SW is in the "run" position. Time to dig out the DVM and trace it down.

Does that apply to the right side dash lights? The ones on the left side have power and are lighting up when you turn the key on.

IF....you look at and study the diagram you have, you will see that indicator lights 1 thru 3 have different power and ground paths.
